We need a talented communicator who is passionate about the arts at UW-Madison and has the social media skills, content creation, and writing ability to help us engage diverse audiences using social media channels, and other digital strategies. The Division of the Arts unifies and catalyzes the arts at UW-Madison, supports and promotes the missions of the academic arts departments and affiliated partners, fosters interdisciplinary collaborations, deepens the student experience, builds community engagement, and advocates for inclusion, diversity, equity, and access across the arts. The Division of the Arts is an administrative unit that reports to the Provost's Office. Led by a faculty director, the Division of the Arts is the only campus-wide unit solely dedicated to the arts.

As a staff member of the Division, you will report to our Multimedia Designer, and work collaboratively with the Integrated Marketing & Communications team and campus partners to support digital and social media marketing objectives for the arts at UW programs, initiatives, and events.

Responsibilities:    
Contributes to strategy development and implements marketing projects in support of institutional or unit marketing goals.

  • 60% Develops, implements, and disseminates marketing materials through various communication mediums utilizing appropriate technologies and techniques
  • 20% Collects, analyzes, prepares, summarizes, and disseminates data and trends relevant to ongoing or future marketing activities
  • 20% Utilizes methods such as photography, graphic design, or video editing to create engaging content for social media

Tasks:
  1. Writes, gathers, and creates content for the Division's social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
  2. Considers inclusion, diversity, equity, and access when developing content for various audiences.
  3. Identifies trending topics on social media and participates as appropriate.
  4. Maintains an editorial calendar for social media communications.
  5. Updates online events calendars as needed.
  6. Evaluates and reports periodically on social media impact, such as follower growth, reach, engagement, and other metrics, assembles digital marketing reports monthly, and tracks ongoing metrics, advertising, and outreach efforts.
  7. Ensures the appropriate marketing messages are conveyed clearly and delivered properly to identified audience segments.
  8. Copy edits social media communications for clarity, grammar (using The Chicago Manual of Style), spelling, and ADA compliance.
  9. Attends and reports on Division of the Arts events and other campus events for social media content, as assigned.

Education:    
Preferred Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience. Studies in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Communication Arts, Visual Communication, or related fields preferred.

Qualifications:    
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of related experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and promoting the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access
  • Experience executing successful targeted marketing campaigns via digital channels, including web and social media
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed organizational skills, and demonstrated success working both independently and collaboratively on complex projects
  • Deadline and detail oriented, with a commitment to accuracy
  • Interest in the arts at UW-Madison
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Fresco, Premiere, or After Effects
  • Experience using social media management software such as Sprout Social a plus!
  • Experience in WordPress, MailChimp, or Eloqua are a plus!
  • Experience in visual communication (video, photography, or graphic design) or interest in gaining skills in this area
  • Demonstrated communication following established brand standards, or experience developing a brand

Work Type:    
Part Time: 50%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:    
Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months), Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary range for this part-time (20 hours per week), entry-level position is $22,500 up to $27,500 annually (equivalent to $45,000 up to $55,000 full time) for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
